Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
In the tradition of the wonderful graphic novels Persepolis and Persepolis 2, comic strip writer Alison Bechdel tackles her own dysfunctional childhood...growing up with the knowledge that she was somehow different (she came out as a lesbian when she was in college), and that her family was different too. Her dad, a funeral home director and English teacher, was also a closeted gay man who had flings with his students and Bechdel's male babysitter.
Absorbing, well written, and poignant.
