The Yiddish Policemen's Union: Cleverly written but disappointing

The Yiddish Policemen's UnionThe Yiddish Policemen's Union by Michael Chabon

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I liked the title and the premise of this book (a futuristic fantasy about Jews settling in Alaska after WWII, combined with a murder mystery). It was very cleverly written, but I couldn't really get into it. It's hard to pinpoint exactly why.

The saving grace was Bina Gelbfish, the ex-wife of Landsman (the protagonist). I loved her feisty character and could have read a whole book about her.

However, my husband really enjoyed this book and it made him laugh out loud
